Q & A with Ann-Maree, Marketing and Projects Assistant

The Home Inspection Hub are a proud team of experienced, knowledgeable and reliable inspectors, supported by a head office comprising sales, customer service and administration professionals.

Normally the one asking the questions, Ann-Maree  – the Hub’s Marketing and Projects Assistant – is today’s interview subject. We sat down with Ann-Maree for a quick Q and A.

What brought you to The Hub?

After a few years working as a contractor in local government, I was ready for a change and wanted to be an established member of a team again. The Hub felt like the right environment where I could use my skills and contribute to a team.

Describe a typical day.

There really isn’t one! I work across a few different areas of the business and our workflow and priorities can change quite quickly, depending on what’s happening. Over the course of a week I might proofread inspector reports, process supplier invoices, write a blog and update our social media, or provide support to our general managers. The variety keeps things interesting.

What strengths do you bring to your job?

Being a multi-tasker helps, especially in a small business, and I’m always keen to learn new skills and expand my experience. We learn by doing, so being involved in different projects keeps the mind sharp and open to new possibilities. Also, I bring in treats for the office – share the guilt, I say!

How has COVID-19 impacted your working life?

In practical terms, my kitchen table has been my desk for the past few months. It requires discipline to keep the structure of a normal working day, though I’m enjoying the ‘relaxed casual’ dress code that seems to have become the norm. I’ve never appreciated the safety and comfort of my home more than I do right now.

Our morning Zoom meetings mean the team stays connected, though nothing can really replace face-to-face contact and the dynamic of a team working together in an office.

Hopefully we’ll be back in the office soon – just in time to put up the company Christmas tree! Our customers have continued to support us through this challenging year, which is heartening.

Name three things you’re looking forward to doing once restrictions have lifted.

Meeting friends under the clocks at Flinders Street Station. It’s the most Melburnian thing I can imagine, and for the past few months I’ve really missed my city. Seeing my family who all live in regional Victoria (although it may as well be East Berlin right now). Sitting at a café on a sunny day and people-watching. Nothing earth-shattering – but isn’t it the small things we’re all missing the most?

What are your hopes for 2021?

I want 2021 to be memorable for the right reasons – continued success for The Home Inspection Hub,  economic recovery for Victoria and the rest of the country, and the chance to use my shiny new passport which I renewed two days before the travel bans came into effect!

Any last words of wisdom?

Tough times never last, but tough people do!
